Springs and webbing: the seat under the seat

Before any foam, a frame gets its suspension. Two benches, two ways of doing it.

At two neighbouring benches on the upholstery line, one technician fits sinuous steel springs, the zigzag kind, across a curved frame. At the next, orange elastic webbing is stretched and fixed across a second frame already wrapped in wadding.

This layer is what the seat rests on. The foam and the cover that go on later shape it; they do not hold it up.
